A citronella dog collar is made up of an adjustable collar plus a batter-powered dispenser that attaches to that collar and dispenses a burst of citronella spray when your dog barks.

Citronella spray is non-toxic, made from a plant-based oil, and the fragrance is somewhat citrus-like. The smell of the spray isn't offensive to most dogs or humans. However, the spray distracts the dog and confuses his olfactory sense (sense of smell), which causes him to stop barking.
