Dog Collar Buckles
Dog collar buckles are one of the most basic pieces of hardware needed for a traditional collar. Buckles are most commonly seen in two basic styles: the side clasp (or parachute buckle) or a double-bar buckle. The side clasp buckle may either be flat or slightly curved - the curved is especially nice for the rounded shape of a collar as it fits more closely to the dog's neck. The double-bar or tongue buckle is most commonly seen on leather collars and works by inserting a pin through a hole in the material. Another lesser used buckle is the jam lever buckle, which has a lever which opens to put on and remove the collar. The lever is then pressed down firmly over the collar material to secure it in place.
Side clasp or side-release buckles are usually seen on collars made from webbing and may be made from plastic, metal or a combination of the two. Plastic buckles are available in basic black or white, and now even in all colors of the rainbow. Metal buckles are usually made from brass, nickel or stainless steel. Some manufacturers also offer buckles in various colors using paint or a powder coating process. Return from Dog Collar Buckles to Make a Collar Return to Best Dog Collar Home |
