Make Your Own Dog Collar Covers
Dog collar covers are an easy and inexpensive way to dress up an old, drab, but still functional collar. If you have a special piece of fabric or want to coordinate your dog's collar (for
example, for a family photo), this can be a great option. It's also a fun way to decorate your dog's collar for the holidays without the hassle and expense of buying and
changing out a new collar with each holiday.
Make a Simple No-Sew Collar Cover
Supplies Needed:
- Your dog's 'old' collar.

- A piece of decorative fabric that will be large enough to wrap around the collar. A stiffer fabric or one with a stiff backing works best.

- Double-sided, self-stick hemming tape.
Instructions:
- Using the 'old' collar as a guide, cut the fabric to fit the collar. The fabric needs to be long (wide) enough to cover the length of the collar, but allow room for the buckle. Also add
enough length so that the ends can be folded over and prevent fraying. Fabric height should be three times the width of the collar.

- Turn the fabric to the wrong side. Attach a small piece of hemming tape at each of the 'buckle ends'. Press down firmly, and pull off the backing from
the other side of the tape. Fold the ends over to create a nice finish that won't fray. Next, attach hemming tape along the entire length of the wrong side of fabric.
Again, press firmly and remove the backing from the tape.

- Fold the fabric over twice and press firmly to create a 'tube' which the collar will slide through. Slide the old collar into collar cover. It's now ready to put on your dog.

TIP:
Fabritac or a similar brand of fabric glue may also be used in place of hemming tape. Make sure to allow time for drying.
